White paper lanterns were first painted red back in the Edo period by tavern owners looking to attract customers. Today, anyone in Japan in search of a casual drink and bite to eat on the way home knows to look for this iconic symbol of warm hospitality, now embodied in this unique and bold G-SHOCK design. 

Dressed in chochin red, the watch face boldly features the kanji characters “耐衝撃” (“shock resistance”) — the fundamental G-SHOCK attribute — printed in distinctive typeface. Other unique details capture the essence of this iconic cultural symbol, including the orange backlight projecting the warm glow of lantern light and buttons and band loop evoking the black lacquered lantern holder.  

The chochin motif echoed in the engraving on the case back and special packaging featuring a lantern glowing in the dark add final touches to this singular Made-in-Japan design.
